BÄR Automation launches intelligent hybrid navigation for AGVs

With ConTrax® HybridNav, BÄR Automation presents its first navigation software developed in-house for automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The solution was specifically designed for demanding industrial environments where flexibility, safety, and predictability are equally important—regardless of whether the project is a brownfield or greenfield project.

Customized automation instead of standard solutions

BÄR Automation has always pursued an approach of consistently tailoring automation solutions to the individual requirements of its customers. This includes the development of customer-specific AGVs as well as integration at the customer's site - with or without safety technology - and complete integration into existing production and IT systems. ConTrax® HybridNav is a central component of holistic system integration and enables the precise orchestration of AGV fleets in combination with stationary machines.

Hybrid navigation: controlled flexibility

At its core, ConTrax® HybridNav combines the advantages of free and track-guided navigation. While free navigation allows for maximum flexibility in path planning, track-guided navigation ensures good predictability and predictable routes. VDA5050-compliant corridors define in which areas and to what extent an AGV may deviate from a predefined track when encountering obstacles. This results in navigation behavior comparable to road traffic: obstacles are automatically avoided – but only within these corridors.

Designed for dynamic production environments

ConTrax® HybridNav was developed specifically for dynamic environments in which people, other AGVs, forklifts, and other driverless transport systems operate in parallel. The reactive navigation solution detects obstacles in the lane within a few milliseconds and enables the AGV to automatically avoid blocked areas, ensuring high operational efficiency.

Industrial-ready and future-proof

Thanks to its VDA5050 V2.1-compliant interface, the navigation software is compatible with common fleet managers. Trajectories are defined in a user-friendly manner via a web interface, making it easy to implement layout adjustments. ConTrax® HybridNav is implemented in a resource-efficient manner, allowing the new functions to be installed on existing AGVs via a software upgrade. In addition, virtual commissioning with complete physics, dynamics, and sensor simulation enables risk-minimized project implementation. With ConTrax® HybridNav, BÄR Automation underscores its commitment to delivering intelligent, practical, and future-proof automation solutions.
