Research at BÄR Automation – innovation as our driving force
Research drives progress. At BÄR Automation, it forms the foundation of transformation, competitiveness, and lasting value. As an active force in Industry 4.0, we believe that only bold ideas and pioneering development efforts will shape the intelligent, adaptive production systems of tomorrow.
Innovation through research – projects for tomorrow's industry
Through our active participation in national and international research projects, we are driving the transformation of production, mobility, and logistics - together with partners from science and industry. Our focus is on making production processes more intelligent, flexible, and sustainable.
ARENA2036 Research Campus for the Industry of Tomorrow
As a founding member of ARENA2036, one of Germany’s most advanced research campuses, we’ve been at the forefront of industrial innovation since 2014. In collaboration with universities, startups, and global manufacturers, we develop breakthrough technologies – from concept to industrial readiness.
One current highlight: In the project “Well-defined”, we’re developing hardware-neutral shared safety solutions for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). This enables flexible and secure integration of AMRs into existing production networks – a critical step toward collaborative, adaptive manufacturing.

Next2OEM The future of wiring harness production
With the Next2OEM research project, we are setting new standards for the automotive production of tomorrow. The focus is on the digitization and automation of the complete value chain of wiring harness systems - from assembly to installation to final assembly in the vehicle.
BÄR Automation brings well-founded expertise from assembly logistics and Industry 4.0 to this project. Together with partners from the entire value chain – including AUDI AG as consortium leader – we are developing a continuous, prototypical overall system. This approach aims to raise production quality and efficiency while paving the way for reshoring wiring harness manufacturing to Germany.
Through shorter delivery routes, stronger regional cooperation and the creation of new jobs, this project makes an important contribution to securing Germany as a production location.
„Well-defined“ at ARENA2036 Networked production for a resilient industry
Industrial production is changing: digitization, sustainability and increasing demands for flexibility require new approaches. The "Well-defined" research project develops networked, interoperable production systems – across company boundaries.
As an active partner in the ARENA2036 research campus, BÄR Automation contributes its expertise in automation and driverless transport systems (DTS). The focus is on hardware-independent shared safety technologies that enable secure and flexible integration into dynamic production networks.
Our vision: An intelligent ecosystem that reacts flexibly to changes – and thus contributes to the resilience of the industry and the strengthening of Germany as a location. For us, research is more than the future – it is responsibility. Open to technology. Practical. Innovative.

Cooperation with SIEMENS Industry Driving innovation together
At BÄR Automation, research and innovation are the driving forces behind our progress. By working closely with our customers and investing in pioneering projects, we continuously push the boundaries of technology - shaping the future of automation.
A current example is our participation in the "Safe Velocity" pilot project by SIEMENS Industry, which we support as a partner. The focus is on the concept of "fail-safe speed," which enables mobile robots to operate safely and efficiently even in the event of a component failure. A software-based approach connects IT and OT systems – an important step toward comprehensive security solutions for autonomous manufacturing processes.
The project creates real added value: Both SIEMENS and BÄR Automation benefit from the intensive exchange and practical insights – for more safety, efficiency, and future viability in the industry.
Together for progress and change
Our participation in pioneering research projects underscores our commitment to shaping innovation — not just as a technology supplier, but as a source of ideas and a driving force for new solutions in automation.
For us, innovation is not an option — it’s our motivation.
